The Solution to
Frown Lines
and Crows Feet
Wrinkles
For most of the wrinkles
that are produced from a lifetime of sun damage
and aging, the Erbium resurfacing laser is the
best available solution. It offers the
possibility of removing most or all of this
damage and rejuvenating your skin.
But some wrinkles are the
result of muscular action. These are called
"dynamic wrinkles". They include the frown lines
which occur between the eyebrows, the
crows feet or "laugh lines" at the outer
corners of the eyes and below them, and the brow
furrows of the forehead.
These wrinkles can be
softened or smoothed by such methods as chemical
peels, power peels, and by laser resurfacing.
But since they have been formed by the muscular
action of small facial muscles of expression,
they tend to be re-established
eventually.
Now there is a simple,
safe, and effective solution for these dynamic
wrinkles. It has been called the "lunchtime
face-lift" by some because it is simple and
quick to perform.
The method consists of
injecting tiny quantities of a biological
medicine called Botox into specific muscles that
cause these wrinkles. Botox is "Botulinum
enterotoxin". This substance does not harm the
muscles. And it does not harm the nerves. But it
blocks the signals from the nerves so the muscle
will not contract. Thus the cause of dynamic
wrinkles is removed. The area remains relaxed
and the wrinkles are markedly
softened.
Some patients say they
"frown" whenever they are concentrating. People
think that they are angry when they are not. Or
they may get headaches easily. Deep creases can
form due to the frequent frowning. With Botox
this can be corrected. When they attempt to
frown, but the brow remains relaxed and smooth.
The result can be remarkable. They look more
relaxed and confident. Even headaches can be
reduced in these patients.
The same is true for
crows feet. When you smile, your eyes can
still "light up" and be very natural and
attractive. But without the parallel wrinkles at
the corner of the eyes that can be distracting.
The result is a more natural, softer smile
without the deep wrinkles.
Botox is not a permanent
treatment, but it is long lasting. Your first
treatment will usually last four months. With
repeat treatments the results tend to last
longer. Ultimately one to two treatments a year
will maintain the improvement.
The treatments are safe
and effective. Call to schedule an appointment
for full information and treatment if Botox is
right for you. Laser Medical Skin Center can be
