| Micro-dermabrasion system for skin rejuvenation
The Power Peeltm is a non-chemical, non-laser alternative for skin rejuvenation with no "down-time" for recovery. This is a system of gentle micro-dermabrasion. It is a fairly new in North America but has been very popular in Europe for over 15 years. Laser Medical Skin Center is pleased to be the first facility in Central Oregon to offer the medically supervised Power Peel treatments.
Power Peeltmmicro-dermabrasion projects a flow of inert gem crystals (corundum oxide) over the skin. This exfoliates the epidermis in the areas treated to remove surface defects in fine layers and leave the skin fresher and smoother. With progressive treatment over a series, deeper improvement is revealed.
The best results are achieved with a series of treatments at one to two week intervals. The purpose of the treatments is to improve the texture and appearance of the skin and to reduce pigmented blemishes and fine wrinkles, to improving acne, and to smooth scars including acne scars.

After the treatment there is tightness and a warm sensation like a sunburn or windburn. The surface of the skin will likely be smooth and appear "buffed". There is usually some mild redness. With a moderate treatment you will look fine a few hours after treatment with ordinary light make-up or even none at all. There is no delayed peeling with the power peels: The treatment results are evident from the first day.
For accelerated treatment and more profound results a mild TCA chemical peel can be followed a few days later with a power peel treatment. This accelerates and enhances the improvement from the peel. But this is an option not required for effective results.
When deeper treatments are administered there may be some slight swelling and possibly some microscopic blood spotting. This clears within one to two days. Be sure to discuss the depth of treatment desired if you have a social occasion within 24 hours of your power peel. It is also important to keep the skin well moisturized after a power peel. Care regimens will be discussed at your appointment.
The Power peel is offered as an milder option to laser skin resurfacing. The dual-Erbium resurfacing laser is the most advanced and effective form of skin resurfacing and rejuvenation. But for some patients the one-week of healing time with laser resurfacing is inconvenient. For others, more gradual and gentle improvement meets their goals. For these, the power peel series is an excellent, safe, and economical alternative.
